The Swift team has announced the migration of several Swift mailing lists to the Swift Forums, which will be the primary discussion and communication method from now on.
The new Swift Forums replace most of the existing Swift mailing lists, with the exception of the code-owners, conduct, and Swift infrastructure lists. All replaced mailing lists have been shut down and archived, and their content made available in the new forums.
To make the transition easier, all existing mailing list accounts have been migrated to the forum system, while new accounts can be set up either using email registration or GitHub accounts. Users that used several email addresses to access different mailing lists will have multiple staged accounts created for them, which can be consolidated by the forum administrators upon request.
The new forum system will have four main categories:
- Evolution: this category will include all topics related to the Swift Evolution Process, further categorized in announcements, pitches, proposal reviews, and discussion.
- Development, which will include all topics related to development and implementation of Swift, further categorized in announcements, server, compiler, Package Manager, core libraries, LLDB, Standard Library, LLBuild.
- Using Swift: which is specifically targeted to users of the language, including beginners, and allows them to ask questions about Swift and its supporting tools.
- Site Feedback: which will include all topics related to the forum system, how it works, how to improve it, etc.
In addition to categories and subcategories, forum users may also assign tags for fine-grained categorization of their posts and to make it easier to find posts relating to a certain specific topic.
All user activity on the Swift Forum is required to comply with the Swift Code of Conduct, which defines a few cases of unacceptable behaviors, including the use of sexualized language, personal attacks, trolling, etc, with the aim to ensure the forums remain:
a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of level of experience, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, personal appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, or nationality.
