    To improve security of IoT devices, Microsoft announced Azure Sphere, an end-to-end solution for Internet-connected microcontrollers (MCUs). Azure Sphere has a three-layer architecture based on hybrid microcontrollers running a new IoT-optimized Linux kernel and leveraging a cloud-based security service. The first Azure Sphere chip, the MT3620, is developed by MediaTek Inc.

    The first ever VueConf.US took place March 26-28 in New Orleans, bringing together the VueJS Core team and hundreds of Vue developers from around the world. March 28 sessions included advanced Vue Patterns, Design Systems with Vue, using TypeScript with Vue, comparisons between Vue and React, Server Side Rendering with Vue, Vue Storybook, and rapid prototyping with Vue Single File Components.

  • Cloud Native Java Has A New Home: Jakarta EE

    Mike Milinkovich, executive director at the Eclipse Foundation, introduced a new Eclipse governance model and roadmap for Jakarta EE at this year’s JAX conference. Based on a recent survey of over 1800 Java developers, the new governance model will focus on support for cloud native application development and faster release cycles. Milinkovich spoke with InfoQ on the future of Jakarta EE.

    Hazelcast, maker of distributing computing technologies and tools, have released a new major version (version 0.6) of Jet, their open-source streaming processing engine.

  • Eclipse Photon Nears Release

    Eclipse Photon, the seventeenth annual release of the Eclipse Project, will be released in June, but we’re keeping an eye on all the new and noteworthy features in each pre-release milestone. Milestone 6 (M6) offers noteworthy features for the Eclipse Platform, Java Development Tools (JDT), Plug-in Development Environment (PDE), Equinox sub-project, and for JDT and Eclipse Platform developers.

  • OCI Standardizes Container Registry API Based on Docker’s v2 Protocol

    The Open Container Initiative launched the container distribution specification project to standardize the API for container image registries. It’s based on the Docker Registry v2 protocol, which is used by the Docker toolset as well as by public cloud vendors.

  • Intel Starts to Use GPUs for Malware Scanning

    Intel has announced its new Thread Detection Technology (TDT), a set of silicon-based capabilities which use the processor GPU to scan memory for malware. This will free the CPU from that task and help mitigate the impact of defending against Spectre and Meltdown.

  • Oracle Replaces JavaOne with Oracle Code One

    Oracle has announced the end of their flagship Java developer conference, JavaOne. In its place Oracle plans to run a broader developer-focused conference, called Oracle Code One.

  • Visual Studio 15.7 Preview 4 Improves Git, C++ Support

    Microsoft has delivered a couple of new previews for the forthcoming Visual Studio 2017 15.7, and based on the limited size of the changes it would seem that we are nearing its formal release. As usual, the changes cover a wide range of territory- so developers should see some benefits regardless of what languages they use.

  • Amazon Launches AWS Secrets Manager to Securely Store, Distribute, and Rotate Credentials

    Amazon announced the launch of the AWS Secrets Manager, which makes it easy for customers to store and retrieve secrets using an API or the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI). Furthermore, customers can rotate their credentials with built-in or custom Lambda functions. The AWS Secrets Manager enables users to centralize the management of secrets of distributed services and applications.

  • TSDoc: A TypeScript Source Code Documentation Format

    TSDoc proposes a new format for documenting TypeScript source code. Existing TypeScript API documentation parsers accept a syntax based on JSDoc, but the extensions to JSDoc are inconsistent across implementations.

  • 12th State of Agile Report Published

    The 2018 State of Agile Report has been published by CollabNet VersionOne. Some of the conclusions from the report are that the need for customer and user satisfaction is increasing, more and more organizations are scaling agile, distributed teams are becoming the norm in agile software development, and many organization have started or plan to start a DevOps initiative in the next 12 months.
