Pivotal Releases Spring Cloud Data Version 1.6 Featuring a New App Hosting Tool
Pivotal has released version 1.6 of Spring Cloud Data Flow, a project for building and orchestrating real-time data processing pipelines to runtimes such as the Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), Kubernetes and Mesos. New features include an app hosting tool, a scheduler for PCF, and an app repository. Mark Pollack, senior staff engineer at Pivotal, spoke to InfoQ about this latest release.

PCF 2.0 Expands Platform to Include Containers and Serverless
Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) version 2.0 sees a significant expansion of the platform. As well as the original Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering, PCF 2.0 now also includes a Kubernetes-based container service and an upcoming Function/Serverless service alongside a marketplace of add-on services that extend the capabilities of the platform.

Microsoft Joins Cloud Foundry Foundation as a Gold Member
At the recent Cloud Foundry Summit, Microsoft announced they have joined the Cloud Foundry Foundation as a Gold member. In addition to joining the foundation, Microsoft is also extending its support for the open source cloud platform by including back-end integration with Azure Database (PostgreSQL and MySQL) and cloud broker support for SQL Database, Service Bus, and Cosmos DB.

Cloud Foundry Foundation Launch Cloud Native Developer Certification and Training Program
At the CloudNativeCon, held in Berlin, Germany, the Cloud Foundry Foundation announced the creation of a Cloud Foundry Certified Developer (CFCD) training and certification program which is community-based, independent and vendor-neutral, and aims to verify job candidates have practical experience with any distribution of Cloud Foundry.

Apigee and Pivotal Collaborate on Hybrid Cloud API Management
Pivotal’s cloud platform, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, now supports additional Apigee API management tooling focussed on hybrid (i.e. part public/part private) cloud support. While Apigee’s hybrid cloud management software, Edge Microgateway, was released last year, Cloud Foundry users can now utilize it within the Pivotal platform’s Apigee plugin.
